Devoting time for YOU and only YOU is often an overlooked ingredient to a healthy and happy life. I have learned over the past few years that “me time” is the most important thing I can do for myself. With a busy schedule it can be hard to take the time to do so. Work, school, family, and loved ones can take so much of your time that it is hard to step back and take time for yourself. You may feel like it is a selfish thing to do but it isn’t. If you’re not taking care of yourself first it will be extremely hard to help others or expend your energy in different avenues. After a while of always expending your physical and mental energy on everything but yourself you will often feel drained of all of your energy.
Find a way to take time for yourself to rejuvenate your energy and happiness. Even if you have to get up 20 minutes earlier than the rest of your household or stay up 20 minutes take the time. This morning I got up, drank some coffee on the porch and just listened to the birds. I let thoughts and feeling flow through my body as I sat there enjoying the beauty around. It wasn’t long but it was enough time just to breathe and let my mind rest without disruptions.
“Me Time” Options:
- Going to the gym
- Sitting at a coffee shop
- meditating outside
- going for a walk
- working on some art work
- listening to music
These are a few of my favorite things to do for myself by myself. Find a routine for yourself, enjoy peace and happiness.
