Let’s get one thing clear here… body mobility is crucial to living a pain free and essentially a happy life. As a health and body enthusiast I have created a little mind hack to keeping myself accountable & consistently working on my mobility and flexibility.
Before we dive into it… let’s break down the definitions and differences between mobility and flexibility.
Simple Definitions:
Mobility: the ability to move or be moved freely and easily. Flexibility: the quality of bending easily without breaking.
Being mobile is more specific to your joints and ability to move through their entire range of motion, optimally pain free. Being flexible is more specific to your body’s muscles and their ability to stretch or bend with ease. Both are essential to living a pain free life – which is a goal I’ve always had.
But let’s face it… stretching and working through your body’s range of motions can be and often is (at least I think so) boring. Unless you’re a super yogi and/or stretching just happens to be “your thing” then it’s often neglected. Even as someone who considers health and fitness basically as my life religion I still have struggled with putting in the time and effort to keep my body mobile and flexible. Throughout my years as a personal coach I have had hack the minds of my clients and even myself to stay consistent with this topic.
And that has brought me to Mobility Mondays – on Mondays I make it a point to focus on my mobility and flexibility. Starting the week off with foam rolling, stretching, and range of motion exercises sets up the rest of my week and my client’s week up for success. Mobility Monday is an easy thing to remember and that’s really why I picked Mondays for this focus. Now every week I know that on Monday I will work on mobility, flexibility and recovery – it has become a habit. And an easy one at that.
Start your week off with a 15-20 mobility session, knowing that every Monday you will bring your focus back to your body’s mobility and ultimately your health and happiness.
