There is no separation from your body and mind, they work together. They feed off of each other. When one is neglected, the other is affected. It is so important to listen to your body. If your body is telling you that you’re tired but your mind says to keep busy – listen to Your Body!
Give your body and mind the rest and recovery it deserves, and yes we all deserve to rest. We are not meant to constantly be active and stimulated. Productivity and health significantly decrease as we push through our natural cycle to rest and recover. So no – pushing through exhaustion to get something done isn’t the best option. Instead take a nap and then get back to it.
There are different ways to “de-stimulate” or disengage your brain. One way is to simply put your phones and laptops away – get away from the blue light and over stimulating screens. Another is to practice mindful breathing and meditation, work on controlling your thoughts – not your thoughts controlling you. Even doing a task that is habitual and instinctual like washing the dishes is a great way to take a mental break.
Rest and recovery for your body also comes with many different options. Simply sleeping is a great start, this is when your body really gets into the depths of recovery. Yoga, stretching and mobility routines are hugely underused solutions. Nutrition also plays a huge role in your body recover, give your body the nutrients it needs to thrive.
Take time to reflect on your routine. Does it support rest and recovery time? If not, I encourage you to add at least one mental and physical recovery activity into your schedule.
Stay Mindful,
Cassandra
